Aim and Approach
W.A.N.T. had a practical three-fold approach in bringing about a positive change as far as water conservation is concerned. This approach was framed keeping in mind the need for sustainability, civil society participation and limiting costing to a minimum.
1. Awareness and advocacy: As mentioned, the first and most important step was creating and raising awareness on the topic. This was done by W.A.N.T. in the following ways:
Handbook An original guide to water conservation strategies including reports on water wastage through our daily consumption habits.
Children’s Book: An original children’s book exploring the topic of water scarcity and drought. This was authored in English and translated into Telugu for wider reach and accessibility.
2. Fundraising: The fundraising element of W.A.N.T. was crucial for a robust implementation stage. A total of 60,000 INR was raised over the course of 2 months, by crowdfunding through Milaap.org. The funds were utilized to empower initiatives by our partner NGO, Hamari Pahchan: https://milaap.org/fundraisers/support-children-of-hamari-pahchan-4?utm_source=whatsapp&utm_medium=fundraisers-title&mlp_referrer_id=8598188
3. Implementation: The most pivotal of the three pronged approach, is the implementation stage, which consisted of the following:
Conducting a series of workshops with students from underserved communities, covering the important lessons outlined in the handbook and childrens’ book resources.
